Escape the Swedish Furniture Store is the latest satirical puzzle card from Mystery Unfolds. Set in everyone’s favourite furniture store – which cannot be named for legal reasons – your task is simple: follow the clues and escape.
“You awake in a large, overly-furnished space. You remember the smell of meatballs, hundreds of labels with words covered in accents, and sitting to rest briefly atop a modular futon. Stumbling groggily along what seems like an endless guided pathway, you finally emerge near cash registers to find the doors all locked. You’re trapped! Picking up some papers nearby, however, you realise this was no accident…
I had the pleasure of playtesting Escape the Swedish Furniture Store a few months ago. It was, as I’ve come to expect from Mystery Unfolds, a brilliantly designed and witty affair featuring impressive artwork and well-constructed puzzles. If you’ve even assembled a piece of IKEA furniture, you’ll be impressed by how that feeling of confusion is replicated here. Deciphering the store floor plan, the weird product names and the assembly instructions all play a part in your escape! It finally comes together with a clever ah-ha moment, which is another element I’ve come to expect from these clever cards.
